Nikau

Year 5-8

Te Rōpū Nīkau:  (seniors) the more mature (Tuākana) tree able to stand firm on its own but still needing support and guidance from its peers and elders. This tree has a firm grip on the Papatuānuku but always reaches for higher honours toward Ranginui so as to stand out from the rest of the forest dwellers and is now able to provide shelter, protection and nourishment to its Teina.

You will find our classroom near the staffroom. We think our classroom is quite unique ,because we have a lovely wood burner in our classroom to keep us warm and cosy in the winter.

The teachers work collaboratively to ensure that all students feel supported with learning. Two fully trained teachers work in this classroom from Monday through to Friday, which allows us to keep our teaching groups small to meet the needs of every learner.

Every Monday our Year 7- 8 students travel by bus to the Marlborough Technology Centre, which caters to these subjects and allows our students to work alongside students from other rural schools in our Pelorus Cluster.

We believe in giving our students a voice and while all students are encouraged to do so, our Year 8 students are our Mana Tamariki - Student Council - They lead activities and projects in our school and offer their ideas through the eyes of our students. They are involved in some of the decision-making on our school.
