Linkwater School  has a special connection with  Ngāti Kuia. Working together we are building a strong relationship for our tamariki through our guiding principles of  Māiatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kaitiakitanga to ensure the protection of the land and the mana of the first people - Ngāti Kuia, adding a sense of identity and belonging for our tamariki. Every year our tamariki revise the pūrākau of Matua Hautere and sing the waiata to remind us all of the history and ties we have to the early Māori people of Ngāti Kuia.
